For part 3 of Winnie’s saga we see a more political and media savvy version of the pooh bear. I searched for quite a while to find an assignment that would fit the bill but in the end I decided to create something new. This was another jump into design assignments with my photo edited version of Winnie the Pooh making a very important press conference.
While he may be hamming it up, Winnie understood the severity of the honey crisis and has stated that he will confront the bees in order to see things back to normal.
For this assignment, I did not create a new submission because the theme I chose was relatively narrow. I needed something to tie my story together and figured this was a pretty good attempt.
This was also a lot more tricky than I had originally anticipated. I started out with an image of Ban-Ki Moon the former head of the U.N. addressing the media. I then replaced him with a stencil picture of Winnie the Pooh and used the eye-dropper from another picture of Winnie to match the colors. With a little more erasing and editing I ended up with the final result. All was accomplished using pixlr.
Near end of editing process:
This is the first part of my final project!
To begin my tale on Winnie the Pooh, I decided to be creative and make my own assignment to represent the narrative. For this design assignment, I came up with an Advertisement Using a Cartoon Character. Since the overall theme of my project follows Winnie the Pooh, I though it would be fitting to have him endorse honey, which he well known as being a fan of.
I started out the assignment by using an existing ad for Roof Top honey and erased a few of the unnecessary images so that it was a relatively clean looking background. I then found a large image of Winnie that really seemed to match with the idea I was going for. Lastly, I went to fontmeme.com and found a really good looking font originally used by the fashion company Hermes. Since this is an advertisement, I came up with a clever quip to reel in the customers.
Editing the image with pixlr:
As I mentioned I also submitted this as a new design assignment and think its a fun way to incorporate different themes with different characters.
Do you think some video games are a bit untruthful in what they advertise? Redesign an existing video game cover that by changing the text/image can tell the honest truth about a video game.

I found this assignment to be the most difficult of the creative designs so far. I figured out pretty quickly that I wanted to do Call of the Wild by Jack London and thought a wolf silhouette would be a great image to start out with. I then did a Google image search for a winter silhouette and found a great one from fotalia.com. As I’ve mentioned before this is my first time really getting involved with photoshop techniques so it took me a while to figure how to properly size the image, then cut and paste it. It’s rather simple using the marquee tool and free transform option to move an item from one picture to the other. Another task that took a bit of time was finding a font that I thought fit the image properly. I settled on the Papryus style which seems to fit the bill.
In the end, I quite enjoy the final outcome. I think the black and white imagery fits the winter landscape which the book is set in provides the clean minimalist appeal that I was looking for.

I watch a lot of movies so this assignment was right up my alley. However, I’m not sure how many movie lovers take this class so I chose a movie which is fairly well known but might not have been seen by anyone recently. It can be tricky sometimes to find icons which display what your trying to describe. I found most of mine pretty quickly and tried to choose ones which were aesthetic for the most part. I simply pasted them together in pixlr and it turned out fine.

I thought this was a really neat assignment and something that I had never done before. I am quite a novice to digital design and thought this would be far more difficult than it turned out being. After searching though Google images for a bit I settled on a poster which promoted increased weapon production and thought it would a good ds106 poster. Here is the original..
Since I don’t have photoshop I uploaded it to pixlr.com which has a decent variety of photo editing tools. I started by erasing the bottom text box and replacing it with my own text and a different shade of brown. I then filled in the heading text to match colors. The next part was a bit more difficult. I erased the red lettering and filled it in with a light blue color to match the background. Then I put in new textboxes and researched on how to rotate text. After figuring this out I was pretty much done.
I must say I really enjoyed this assignment and I learned a lot in a short amount of time. I know some aspects of it could be a bit cleaner but it was a learning experience and I think I can build on this.

This assignment took me a little while to figure out. The execution was fairly simple however it was a bit of a challenge to come up with a good concept. The story in question could be very deep depending on the context but personally its a relatively minor tale on disappointment. I applied to a job I really wanted over the summer and I thought the interview went fairly well. I was told they would call me on a certain day, so I made sure to have my phone on hand no matter where I was. When I finally got a call from an unknown number, I was thrilled. However, my elation didn’t last long…
It took some time to find a picture which represented the idea I had in mind. In the end, I chose one which I felt elicited a great sense of emotion. It’s a great letdown to hear or not hear news on something you’ve been waiting on. I used the photo editor from pixlr.com to clean up a few parts of the image and then added the text where I thought it could be most easily read.
